Where to find spices store for Biryani in Cavite

It was an early and rainy morning when my son and I went to the Indian store. The store was still closed when we arrived, so I let my son sit on the yellow stairs of an old building near the store. He was still yawning, and his eyes were drowsy. We'd left the house too early. It took a few minutes before I saw people arriving and then sitting in front of some building next to the Indian store. We walked to the banana store and asked the seller if he knew what time the store would be open. He told me it would be open soon, as the men sitting next to the store were the crew. It took half an hour before the store opened; they open at eight in the morning. At last, we entered the store. It is small, but enough to move around and choose. There are enough crews to assist customers. The smell of the different spices is really aromatic, as I expected. The boxes of spices are piled up and organized. I spent enough on the spices and rice to last for a month. But what I can’t forget is th...

How much Mahr(dowry) should I ask?

When I got married, my husband and I were both young and still students. I only asked for a small amount for dowry, trying to please Allah and to prove to my husband that he married a simple woman who would be grateful to him and would not cause him hardship. Dowry doesn’t have a limit or minimum measure; you can ask how much you want, but it’s encouraged to reduce it to make marriage easy. If you are about to get married, your dowry will attest to your intention for this marriage. So, ask yourself, What is your intention? Are you doing it to please Allah? Don’t get me wrong; you have all your rights to ask for the amount that you want, but let’s not forget that we are here to please Allah. And if you think you will lose your share of this world if you don’t ask for a large sum of dowry, you’re wrong. If Allah does not give it to you in this world, he will surely give it to you in the next. Remember your purpose, your higher purpose, and that is to worship Allah. Don’t let your des...

Where to buy modest clothes in Philippines

Assalamualaykum, my dear sisters, Alhamdulillah, I have decided to make a section on my blog where you’ll find interviews and stories from various Muslims that are striving to please Allah. This is the second interview that I wrote here in my blog; the first one was  'Sincere advice for muslima on getting married' Today, I’ve written about Modarina , one of my favorite modest clothing brands locally that imports its products from the Middle East. Their products are not only gorgeous but also of good quality. I love the elegance and modesty of their clothing. It expresses something like, This is us, Muslims; modesty is elegant, and you can only find elegance through modesty.’ It gives us the confidence to show our identity as Muslims. Disclaimer : This is not a paid article, but with the generosity of our sister Umm Sarah, the CEO of Modarina, you can use this voucher to get 20% off on their products, valid only this year 2023. Use voucher code Hayat20.   Of cours...

7 Youtube channels for muslim kids

When I was a kid, my grandma would only let us watch TV for a short time. But now, everyone has difficulty controlling their kids by using gadgets.  We all get tired sometimes, and the only resolution that we see is to hand them over a gadget and make them watch. However, in all things, there is always a balance, and as a mother of a toddler, I learned that discipline is very important to start at a young age. When I say discipline, it doesn’t mean that I need to hurt my kid but to talk to him and let him cry if he can’t get what he wants. I don’t stress over the noise of crying; I just tell my son that he can cry but not too loud because someone is sleeping and we don’t want to disturb them. I praise and reward him whenever he does something good and shows patience, and I always remind him of this phrase that I learned from Omar and Hana: "If you are upset, you should try to be patient because when we are patient, Allah will be pleased." I’ve been telling this to my kid ...

Children are trials

I never thought I would be the mother of a boy who is brave to protect his imaginary baby, loves to cuddle with the cat, and will spread cookies on the floor because he wants to feed the ants. Every morning, he walks with me to the market and greets everyone; he is a peacemaker between his friends, he loves to say thank you and say Insha'Allah when he wants to go to a toy shop. Day by day, my son is growing and learning to ask questions like, "What is that and then?", “Do you hear that? "And why I can’t let him do things, why he can’t listen to music, or why I can’t let him watch Halloween videos, I always try to answer his questions, fill his curiosity, and explain things. Incredibly, two years old can comprehend and can be patient. Since then, I have learned that I cannot underestimate him, I cannot think that he is just a kid that will not understand, and I cannot stay quiet and say nothing. I was afraid that at such a young age, my son would be gloomy because h...

Sincere advice for muslima on getting married

My husband is tall, dark, and handsome. He thinks like a philosopher, and his speech is intimidating yet inspiring. It was not hard to fall in love with him. However, relationships outside of marriage were not an option. It was a long night of uncertainty, but before the night ended, I decided to ask him to marry me. And I’ve told that story to many women. And I’m neither ashamed nor regretful. It was 2014 when my husband and I got married. It was a simple and private wedding, hidden from my in-laws. My husband and I were young and still students at that time, and my in-laws were unready for it. Out of fear, we hid it from them. Alhamdulillah, after one year, we confessed. Unexpectedly, they accepted it, and at last, we escaped the difficulty of hiding. Today, in our Ummah, getting our parents approval for marriage has been a common problem when it should be simple. Whatever the reason, we have to conquer our fear and put our trust in Allah. Eventually, it will all turn i...

10 things I do to increase my faith (Iman)

Are there any times when you feel your faith is weak? Or do you find yourself not performing Salah or wearing your hijab anymore? I asked myself once, "Why?"  In this world full of temptation, hardship, and enjoyment, we tend to forget who we really are, our purpose, and that Allah swt is watching us. Some of us chose to drink wine over halal drinks. Some chose to scam people instead of earning in a permissible way. And some of us chose to have fun over standing in front of our Lord.  Why do we do this? Why are we taking for granted the commandments of Allah swt? There are many reasons why we lose our Iman; sometimes it is because we are not patient with the trials that Allah has afflicted us, or sometimes it is because we are excessively enjoying our lives. What I noticed with these sisters who stopped wearing their hijab and brothers who drink or smoke is that they are surrounded by non-Muslims; they love and admire the wrong people.   Proph...
