When I was a kid, my grandma would only let us watch TV for a short time. But now, everyone has difficulty controlling their kids by using gadgets.
We all get tired sometimes, and the only resolution that we see is to hand them over a gadget and make them watch. However, in all things, there is always a balance, and as a mother of a toddler, I learned that discipline is very important to start at a young age. When I say discipline, it doesn’t mean that I need to hurt my kid but to talk to him and let him cry if he can’t get what he wants. I don’t stress over the noise of crying; I just tell my son that he can cry but not too loud because someone is sleeping and we don’t want to disturb them.
I praise and reward him whenever he does something good and shows patience, and I always remind him of this phrase that I learned from Omar and Hana: "If you are upset, you should try to be patient because when we are patient, Allah will be pleased." I’ve been telling this to my kid even since he was one year old, and he will stop crying quickly when he hears the word "patient," Alhamdulillah. May Allah grant us all offspring that are salih and muslih. And may He make it easy for us to fulfill our responsibilities as parents.
Here is the list of YouTube channels for muslims to which my son is subscribed: I also recommend to download YouTube Kids so we can avoid disliked advertisements, and here we can also block some videos that are not according to the teachings of Islam. I encourage every one of us to do our best to raise our children in an Islamic way and keep them away from non-Muslim friends who can influence them to be disobedient to us and to Allah. And Allah knows best.
